Our Pack has an associated troop and medical corp who work with the cubs regularly. The medical group generally volunteers to run Readyman training. This year, we had a shorter session focusing on some of the critical elements of Readyman. We intend to work on the remaining elements in the spring. The boys learned to make a stretcher from blankets and poles. This always amazes them because there is nothing holding the stretcher together and yet it can carry cubs! They practiced that part too, of course. They also worked on CPR on rescue dummies, practiced the Heimlich maneuver (gently) on each other, and learned how to make a splint from a belt. They also heard stories about shock and hypothermia and how to warm up a scout. They learned a lot and look forward to finishing Readyman in the den soon.
