Handyman – changing oil and fixing bikes

Inflating bikes and fixing chains

Our goal this meeting was to finish Handyman, focusing on the bikes and the remaining parts of the car we didn’t finish last week (checking the oil). With this meeting and the previous ones, plus the homework to finish up Handyman #1, they all earned Handyman.

Objectives

By the end of the meeting, the cubs should be able to / should have completed or started:

Significant progress on Handyman
Boy Scout skills

Gathering Exercise

Start: 5 minutes before meeting start time

Duration: 5-10 minutes

What:

Begin bicycle tire inflation and chain repair
Two boys visit tigers for their opening

Opening

Duration: 2-5 minutes

What: Pledge; Boy Scout Law

Equipment needed: flag

Activities

This is the core of the meeting.

Duration: 40 minutes

What. Indicate who is responsible for each. Note we had two parent volunteers to help in addition to the leaders. This kept the boys busy rotating through each station.

Handyman #5: With adult supervision, show how to check the oil level and tire pressure on a car.
Handyman #6: Make a repair to a bicycle, such as tightening the chain, fixing a flat tire, or adjusting the seat or handlebars.
Handyman #7: Properly lubricate the chain and crank on a bicycle.
Handyman #8: Properly inflate the tires on a bicycle.
