Aquanaut activity pin
Many of the boys completed the aquanaut activity pin in 5 days of day camp. The boys all loved pool time! It is so hot at camp that pool time is always a favorite. We detail each day’s activities below. Even though it isn’t listed each day, they played games and also had free swimming time (except for day 1, which was focused on swim tests).
Syllabus for all 5 days of the aquanaut activity pin (doc and pdf).
Analysis (Start/Stop/Continue)
- Start: While the pool worked well overall, there are a few things we would change for next year. First, remind the kids that the pool has a time of formal instruction (for aquanaut) and a time for free play. Some didn’t understand this. Second, ensure there are at least two staff in the pool involved with the webelos at all times. Third, ensure your junior staff has done lifeguarding merit badge recently as it is very useful. Finally, try to get some shade for the staff. It is HOT out there and the pool staff don’t actually get wet much. Clearly label the supply bin for Webelos as we lost supplies to the cubs (and didn’t get them all back, unfortunately since many of the supplies were personal).
- Stop: Worked well in general. Nothing specific to stop.
- Continue: In general, it worked well. See suggestions in start above.
